SARAH BAGANZ

TRANSPERSONAL ARTS COUNSELLOR
& TUTOR

BIO

I was born and grew up in Berlin where I enjoyed a Waldorf education.

I trained for five years at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague, Netherlands, where I attained my BA in Fine Art with the focus being on traditional printing techniques and painting.

I graduated with a degree in Transpersonal Arts in Therapy from Tobias School of Art and Therapy in East Grinstead, UK.

Following this, I worked at a Camphill community in Scotland as a Transpersonal Arts Counsellor and also co-managed a household there, caring for five adults with learning disabilities.

In 2021 I moved to West Hoathly in Sussex to work as a teacher of sculpture at Hoathly Hill Sculpture Studios and to teach as senior lecturer at Tobias School of Art and Therapy in East Grinstead where I specialise in the therapeutic indications of working with clay.

Sculptural Inspiration

The exploration and coming into form of an inner impulse is just the beginning of working with clay. What I really enjoy is when this form that I have begun to work with becomes embodied and a dialogue is opened between it and my Self.  At that moment, it is no longer about me imposing an idea upon the sculpture but instead, it is the sculpture that is ‘speaking’ to me, communicating what it wants to become.

Teaching APPROACH

Holding space is in my nature. The space I provide is an environment within the classroom setting where students can explore, at their own pace, the projects that they want to work with whilst being challenged in way that is comfortable yet exciting.

Within the experience of certain exercises we can develop "The Language Of Form" which enables the student to achieve the sculptural expressions that they seek to realise.

For me, the classroom is a setting where we can all share our artistic questions, experience and knowledge whilst also being a place in which students can re-charge and develop care for themselves in a lightful manner.
