MARIA ALBIEZ

SCULPTOR & Art Therapist SRATh

ARTIST STATEMENT

The study of nature and its natural forms inspires and fills me with love and awe. I don’t wish to replicate it, but instead reflect its essence to form non-representational works. I connect to the real world through wood, stone and clay. I exhibit regularly with the Surrey Sculpture Society (SSS).

THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

I am an Anthroposophically trained, Transpersonal Art Therapist working with the approach that recognises the human being as a physical, soul and spiritual being. I use painting, drawing and specialise in sculpture therapy.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING ART THERAPY

The initial session is to assess and give you an overview how I work. We can decide together which medium would be of help to start with.

A contract of how many sessions, when they will take place, confidentiality and payment terms will be discussed.

As an Anthroposophical Art Therapist, I use images, stories, art history, colour movement, self-expression, and rhythms in nature to connect to our feelings, our own inner healing forces and spiritual recourses to nurture the soul.

In sculpture therapy I work with clay and stone, which connects to the 3 Dimensional space.  The sculptural quality has an effect on the physical body and soul, which can reconnect to one's body, can bring about balance, stability and form, and can re-enliven depleted forces.

WORKING AS AN ART THERAPIST

I worked on the psychiatric unit in a hospital that in-cooperated complimentary therapies and medicine in Germany. Working with a holistic approach, I joined a small private clinic, Park Attwood Clinic in Worcestershire as a regular locum. For many years, I worked with adults with special needs at Nutley Hall in Sussex (Nutley Hall is an independent adult residential care community for people with learning disabilities, offering a homely social setting).

I currently have a small private practise and co-run the Sculpture Studio at Hoathly Hill which is open to both adults and children of all ages and abilities.

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

I trained in Remedial Education and worked in a Camphill home in South Africa, with children, trainees and adults with learning disabilities as teacher, house coordinator and workshop master.
